VOTERS are going to the polls tomorrow (Thursday), to vote in the general election.

The candidates for Thirsk and Malton Constituency are: Martin Brampton, The Green Party; John Hall, Yorkshire Party; Kevin Hollinrake, The Conservative Party; Gordon Johnson, Independent; Di Keal, Liberal Democrats;Steve Mullins, Independent Michael Taylor, SDP; and David Charles Yellen, Labour Party.

Voters can locate their local polling station by going to Ryedale District Council’s website at ryedale.gov.uk and entering their postcode.

Voting closes at 10pm tomorrow. It is projected that the result will be called in the early hours of Friday.

At the last election in June 2017, Mr Hollinrake was re-elected with nearly 60 per cent of the vote.

Mr Hollinrake secured 33,572 votes out of 56,025 in the constituency. Labour candidate Alan Avery secured second place with 14,571, Liberal Democrat Di Keal got 3,859 votes, Mr Horton 1,532, Martin Brampton, of the Greens, 1,100, Liberal John Clark 753 and Independent candidate Philip Tate 542.

The candidates for Scarborough and Whitby are: Lee Derrick, Yorkshire Party; Hugo Fearnley, Labour Party; Robert Goodwill, The Conservative Party; and Robert Lockwood, Liberal Democrats.

The nominees for York Outer are Keith Aspden for the Liberal Democrats, Scott Marmion standing as an independent, Anna Perrett for Labour and Julian Sturdy for the Conservatives.

In York Central the nominees are James Blanchard for the Liberal Democrats, Andrew Dunn for the Social Democratic Party, Tom Franklin for the Green Party, Rachael Maskell for Labour, Andrew Snedden for the Yorkshire Party, Nicholas Szkiler for the Brexit Party and Fabia Tate for the Conservative.
