KINGS, queens and castles is the theme of a term topic at Gillamoor Primary School.
Teacher Andrew Dean said the children had started their work with a look at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
"The infants have produced some wonderful copies of the Bayeux Tapestry, created their own scrolls and written accounts of the battle," he said.
"In the junior class they have done some drama around the battle creating examples of the shields and weapons from both the Normans and Saxons.
"The children have also been busy creating castles and crowns at home and together in class have made a fantastic example of a Norman castle out of Lego."
The pupils will also be visiting a local castle and seeing first-hand how they were built and how they were used.
Mr Dean added: "It is hoped that by the end of the topic the school will be able to put on an exhibition of the monarchs of England as each child is currently busy, sketching, colours and painting a portrait of their chosen royal before completing a profile to go with it."
