NORTON traders have been praised for supporting an initiative to shop locally.

In the run-up to the festive season, a prize draw was organised by Norton Town Council, which meant anyone spending £5 in a participating shop or business was in with a chance of winning a hamper.

Stores taking part included Norton Pet Shop, Norton Video Shop, Norton Hardware, Restyle, Boom, Trophy & Print, Fletcher’s, PB Butchers, Miller’s Fruit & Veg, Corks & Cans, Next Steps and Ming Yan’s.

The hamper, made up of items donated by the businesses, was won by Chris Sullivan, of Norton.

Norton mayor Councillor Ray King said: “I would like to thank our deputy mayor Councillor Di Keal for contacting all the businesses and also the traders and businesses in Norton for their generosity.”

Mr Sullivan said he would also like to thank all the traders who supported the Christmas draw.

“It was a great surprise to be a winner, but the generosity of the business owners was amazing,” he said.

“It simply gives further proof, if any is required, of what a great town we have and I hope the people of Norton will continue to support the local businesses which are the real life-blood of the town.”
