THE future of Malton and Norton libraries is still undecided, it has been revealed.
Ryedale District Council says North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has “abandoned” a plan to merge the two branch libraries at Harrison House, the district council-owned building near Malton rail station, Janet Waggott, Ryedale’s chief executive, revealed.
However, a spokesman for NYCC said the authority’s decision made in 2011 to combine the two libraries had not been changed, adding: “The council has not taken a decision on a site.”
Meanwhile, said Ms Waggott, Ryedale Voluntary Action and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau are expected to move into Harrison House from the Wentworth Street Comunity Centre in either August or September and talks are underway with a propsective lessee for another part of the building.
