TALENTED students from Malton School and Norton College went head-to-head in a talent contest in aid of Louby’s Lifeline Appeal.
Twelve acts battled it out in the Milton Rooms on Friday to raise money for the charity, set up by teenager Laura Tierney-Robertson and her mum Emma, to help fund research into the treatment of brain tumours in young people.
The winning act was magician Matthew Woollons, from Malton School, with Norton College students Dom Weatherill and Jess Monkman second, and Philippa Norman, from Malton School, third.
Organised by Coun Di Keal, mayor of Norton, the event was part of her charity of the year drive to raise money for Louby’s Lifeline.
“I am absolutely delighted with the way that Malton and Norton’s Got Talent went and the fantastic atmosphere on the night. We have raised £1,050, with more money still to come,” she said.
“The students all worked really hard to perfect their acts and it was great to see so much talent here in the town and the community coming together to support them.”
Di said it was not just the quality of the amazing acts on stage that made it such a great event, but also the hard work of the backstage crew from Norton College who ensured that the evening ran smoothly.
“I would like to thank the staff and students involved from Norton College and Malton School who made the evening such a success, especially at such a busy time of year in school,” she said.
“I would also like to thank judges Dan Parkin, Neil Foster, Mandy West and Rob Davies who had the difficult task of choosing the winners from such a huge field of exceptional acts.
“It was a wonderful evening and a tribute to all who put so much effort into making it a success.”
