FIVE friends are preparing to bare all in memory of one of their friends who lost her battle with two brain tumours.
Inspired by The Full Monty, Ryan Swain, Scott Simpson, Sam Brookes, John Atkinson and Dez Pattinson will be stripping off to raise funds for Louby’s Lifeline.
The charity was set up by Laura Robertson-Tierney, known as Louby, who passed away at her home in Malton on February 29 last year.
Shortly after her diagnosis, in April 2011, she set up Louby’s Lifeline to raise awareness of brain cancer and the appeal has so far raised more than £25,000.
Ryan, who raised thousands of pounds last year by skateboarding from Malton to Scarborough and back, said he wanted to do another event for Louby’s Lifeline and Children with Cancer UK.
“I wanted to do something completely different and came up with this idea, as like in the Full Monty film, the economy isn’t great at the moment and there is a lot of unemployment around,” he said.
“Like the film, we are hoping to put on a good show for everyone so they can have a bit of fun while raising money for good causes.”
Ryan said rehearsals were underway for the performance at the Railway Sports and Social Club in Norton on Friday, February 22.
“For one night only, five local lads will be getting their kits off for charity,” he said.
“We are working hard learning the moves and aim to make the evening an unforgettable one.”
Ryan said he was also collecting prizes for a raffle, which would also be held on the night, and wanted to thank all those who had so far made a donation, along with Body and Soul in Malton and the Railway Club for letting them use their facilities for free.
Entry to ‘The Full Monty’ is £5 and doors open at 8.30pm. There will also be a DJ and entertainment.
