MONKS James Herbert MBE Jim Monks of Huttons Ambo, Malton, North Yorkshire passed away on the 1st October 2021 at York Hospital, aged 89 years. He was the much-loved husband of Avril, father of William and Susan, grandfather to Rohan and Emily, and father-in-law of Lynda and Mike. Jim was a metallurgist throughout his career, in Sheffield, Barrow-In-Furness, Lackenby (Teesside), and latterly in a number of countries overseas. He became a specialist in the continuous casting of steel and in 1986 was awarded the MBE for his development of rotary valve controls in the steelmaking process. The funeral service will take place at St Margaret's of Scotland, Hutton Hall, High Hutton, Malton, North Yorkshire YO60 7HW on Thursday, 28th October at 12.30. Family flowers only please, however donations in lieu for the upkeep of St. Margaret's, of which he was a long-serving churchwarden, would be most welcome.
