I am so saddened to read this. Hazel was my teacher at Pickering Junior School and through her I learned to love words, both written and spoken. I remember one classroom enactment of ‘Emil and the Detectives’ particularly vividly! Later, she adjudicated the Lady Lumley’s Newstead Prize for Speech and Drama and helped me to gain a place with the National Youth Theatre after winning the prize. Her love of drama was infectious and opened up my way through life, for which I will always be thankful. My love to Stephen and Helen as they move through this journey of bereavement and face their first Christmas without their mum.
