ONE of the country’s foremost interpreters of music is presenting a show of First World War songs at the Milton Rooms, in Malton.
Performing alongside singer Chris Green, who also plays the keyboard and fretted string instruments, will be Sophie Matthews, a singer and woodwind player.
Blast from the Past uses music and song to tell the story of The War to End All Wars. It will feature a mixture of soldiers’ songs, music hall numbers and war poems, set to new music and original compositions. Sing-a-long wartime standards will include Pack Up Your Troubles, Tipperarey and Goodbye-ee, also celebrates the courage and humour of the Tommies under fire and the folks at home.
Between them Chris and Sophie play more than 30 instruments and their repertoire extends from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Tickets for the concert, on Friday, September 12, are £10 and available from the Milton Rooms, or by phoning 01653 696240. The show begins at 8pm and doors open at 7.30pm
