GET ready for some glittering costumes, dancing in the streets and hits straight out of the city of Detroit as the Magic of Motown returns to the stage of the Grand Opera House in York on Friday, June 21.
The Magic of Motown presents its ‘I’ll Be There’ tour featuring a new show packed with 36 Tamla Motown hits, including songs by such artists as the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie.
This year is a very special one as far as Motown is concerned, as it marks 50 years of number one hits from one of the world’s most famous record labels.
In 1963, Motown artists were regularly topping the charts in the United States; Heat Wave by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, You Really Got a Hold On Me by The Miracles, It Should’ve Been Me by Kim Weston, Fingertips Pt 2 by Little Stevie Wonder and Can I Get a Witness by Marvin Gaye paved the way for the label’s meteoric rise to become one of the most influential and successful record labels of all time.
To mark the occasion, The Magic of Motown is preparing to sign, seal and deliver its biggest production in its 10-year history.
The show is at 7.30pm. Tickets are £23.50/£22.50 concessions. Phone 0844 871 3024 or book online at www.grandoperahouseyork.org
