GREAT Habton marched into the final of the Derwent Valley League’s Home Guard Sunday Cup thanks to a comprehensive win over Nawton Grange 2nds.
The division ‘A’ title-chasers rattled up 210-5 and then saw off Grange for 105.
Great Habton will meet Muston in the final at East Ayton on July 20 after they defeated Valley Bar Nomads in the their semi-final.
Habton will be out for revenge, too, after losing to Muston in the semi-finals of the Atlas Ward Structures Cup.
The final of that competition, which is a 20-overs-a-side knockout tourney for division ‘A’ teams only, takes place at Staxton next Wednesday (July 9, 6pm start), with Muston likely to start as underdogs against a Flamborough side who are unbeaten at the top of the league.
The umpires for the final are Mike Brodie and Leslie Johnson.
Flamborough enjoyed a nine-wicket win over Hospitals/Rugby Club on Saturday to go clear at the top of the division ‘A’ table ahead of fellow unbeaten side Great Habton, who were not in action.
Whitby 3rds, meanwhile, rattled up an incredible total of 361-3 in a 249-run win over Sewerby 3rds. Josh Suckling crashed an unbeaten 190 and Finlay Morris was another centurion with 118.
Meanwhile, in bad news for the league, division ‘B’ is now down to just seven teams after Bridlington 3rds withdrew, the third side to quit that tier this summer following Sewerby 4ths and Seamer 3rds.
All points from matches against Bridlington 3rds will be deleted.
League spokesman Bernard Goulding said: “I really am sorry for these seven teams now only having just 12 games in the season.
“This really is another major blow for cricket in this area. I really hope interest in local cricket picks up again soon and that the existing clubs in the league can rally round their players and get them to play this wonderful game.”
Kirkbymoorside 2nds also struggled to get out a team, having only eight men, but they still beat second-placed Wold Newton 2nds by eight wickets to stay top of the pile.
Wold Newton found some gaps in the field in totalling 191-9, Simon Addison making 29, James Ward 31 and Will Hall 47.
But Jamie Harper followed his 3-67 with 54 not out in Kirkby’s reply, as he and Michael Thompson (58no) took them to victory after James Magson had made 65.
Snainton stayed rooted to the bottom after a 26-run defeat by fellow strugglers Filey 2nds.
The visitors were all out for 103 as Leigh Watson took 3-23 and Johnathan Maw 4-27) but Snainton were dismissed for 77 in response, Kevin Chapman taking 4-11.
Muston 2nds were another team to only field eight players but they still beat Thornton Dale 2nds to stay second in division ‘C’.
*Muston 2nds’ eight men were all out for 137, Mark Precious (54) and Matthew Kings (46) making the bulk of the runs as John Ellis took 6-40).
Patrick Stephenson hit 60 in reply but Kings (4-38) and Precious (3-15) also shone with the ball as Thornton’s overs ran out with them on 118-9, 19 runs shy of their target.
Cayton 3rds stayed top after beating Scalby 3rds by nine wickets after skittling them for 55 through Chris Pearson’s 5-26 and Joel Boyer’s 3-15.
Ganton 2nds enjoyed their first win of term, beating Wykeham 3rds by 97 runs.
John Sarup (30), Robin Milner (49) and Joel Sarup (46) contributed to Ganton’s total of 175-5, George Shannon taking 3-24. Matthew Remmer made 28 in reply but Danny Farrow took 4-23 as Wykeham were dismissed for 78.
In the Murray Brown and Son Cup, for division ‘C’ teams, Cayton 3rds and Scalby 3rds will contest the final after they beat Forge Valley 4ths and Ganton 2nds respectively in the last four. The final will be at Flixton on Wednesday, July 23, at 6pm, with neutral umpires to be appointed.
