COUNCILLORS are being urged to extend a deadline for communities to come up with plans to keep under-threat libraries in North Yorkshire open.
Eight libraries across the region are at risk of closure as North Yorkshire County Council tries to cut its budget for the service by £1.7 million.
The authority’s Liberal Democrat group wants more time to be allowed for the public to devise ideas for how they could be run.
A motion submitted by Coun Bill Hoult, asking for the current October 31 deadline to be put back for six months, will be debated at a meeting of the full council tomorrow.
