A VEHICLE and roadside verge have caught fire on a major road through North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Northallerton, Richmond and Ripon responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on the A1 (M) southbound from junction 51 to junction 50 at approximately mid-day today (August 8).
A spokesperson for the service said: “Crews located the vehicle and approximately five metres of grass verge well alight.
“Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down.
“The incident was left in the hands of the police and highways.”
